Review: OCD

Last modified date

OCD, directed by Madonna Gonzalez, is fast, noisy and stressful – at first glance, an unpleasant ride, but you soon realize how clever and effective the short film is in its portrayal.

The short film follows Amanda, a university student sitting in a lecture, struggling with her OCD tick and intrusive thoughts.

The narrative core of this piece, the portrayal of a Cantonese family’s attitude towards OCD, is a review of cultural and generational attitudes on mental health. Its message is sophisticated and thought provoking.

I watched OCD three times back-to-back, and enjoyed it more each time. I highly recommend checking this one out.

In his youth Alvin loved watching movies and would find himself spending his lunch money and allowance at the box office. He loved the Matrix and the X-Men films, and somewhere along the way, he discovered a love for horror movies — HereditaryMidsommar and Mother! being his favourites. He now holds a professional writing diploma, a couple of journalism degrees, and likes to spend his free time reviewing movies on IMDB and for various magazines. @alvinwct
