Review: Ayam Zaman (The Old Days)

Last modified date

Ayam Zaman (The Old Days), directed by Hassib Hani, is among my top favourite films of the year. It follows the story of Hadi who finds himself an unexpected guest at Adam’s engagement party, who he hasn’t seen since they were teenagers in love.

The Old Days is a poignant story about two men who didn’t fully appreciate their love when they were young, and now look back and realize it as adults.

The gentle and culturally-rich world of the film, the different sensibility of both sets of characters, old and young, the intimacy, love and trust portrayed by the performers – wow, just wow.

There’s real gold here, and it’s breathtaking. I highly recommend watching The Old Days the first chance you get.

In his youth Alvin loved watching movies and would find himself spending his lunch money and allowance at the box office. He loved the Matrix and the X-Men films, and somewhere along the way, he discovered a love for horror movies — HereditaryMidsommar and Mother! being his favourites. He now holds a professional writing diploma, a couple of journalism degrees, and likes to spend his free time reviewing movies on IMDB and for various magazines. @alvinwct
