Review: Triage

Last modified date

Triage, directed by David Rendall, is a claustrophobic pressure cooker that follows an arguing couple driving their sick cat to the vet. The couple is loudly screaming at one another. The boyfriend wants to save costs and suggests euthanizing the cat, while worried about losing his job because he’s missing his shift. The girlfriend will do anything to get the cat the medical attention that it needs, and discovers that the cat may be sick because of something the boyfriend did.

It’s an uncomfortable short film that only gets more and more uncomfortable as the story goes on. And then it reaches a point where you’re disgusted by the couple.

There’s a genre of movies that I enjoy that I call “summer breakup films.” This is that but on a whole other level that I was unprepared for.

I found Triage very unsettling and impressive. It’s one of those films you do not want to watch with a date. Please check this one out. I hate that I enjoyed it, but wow, did I enjoy it.

In his youth Alvin loved watching movies and would find himself spending his lunch money and allowance at the box office. He loved the Matrix and the X-Men films, and somewhere along the way, he discovered a love for horror movies — HereditaryMidsommar and Mother! being his favourites. He now holds a professional writing diploma, a couple of journalism degrees, and likes to spend his free time reviewing movies on IMDB and for various magazines. @alvinwct
