Review: A Good Day Will Come

Last modified date

A Good Day Will Come, directed by Amir Zargara, is a Persian short film with English subtitles about a professional athlete on a competitive tournament and press tour, while mass deaths and protests break out in his country.

The film is a painful watch in the best ways. It’s political, it’s atmospheric, and it’s gut wrenching. The film begins with a consistent undertone of dread, made all the more uncomfortable by the main character trying to concentrate on his sports career, emotionally struggling on whether to get involved in the protests, and suffocated by worry for his family and what’s happening on the streets.

The way these ideas and internal struggles were presented felt very authentic. The experience was absolutely gripping from start to finish. I was all the more devastated to find out the events were based on a true story.

A Good Day Will Come is not an easy watch, but absolutely worth the watch.

In his youth Alvin loved watching movies and would find himself spending his lunch money and allowance at the box office. He loved the Matrix and the X-Men films, and somewhere along the way, he discovered a love for horror movies — HereditaryMidsommar and Mother! being his favourites. He now holds a professional writing diploma, a couple of journalism degrees, and likes to spend his free time reviewing movies on IMDB and for various magazines. @alvinwct
