Review: Shoes in the City
Synopsis
In a city where every step tells a story, can a timid pair of sneakers find the courage to break routine and walk their way into love?
There are so many things about Shoes in the City that are worthy of praise.
The film tells the story of a pair of shoes, walked around by a timid young man who is looking for love.

Zachary Chabot succeeds in directing something that’s new and experimental. When a film is as stylish as this one is, I worry substance can be too deeply buried under style, but Chabot delivers on both. Shoes in the City is beautiful and meaningful, while stylish and leaves you in a dreamlike daze.
Chabot is a rising superstar in the Canadian film festival scene and currently the director I want to see more from. I see a master storyteller and craftsman in him, and I appreciate that he doesn’t overexplain his concepts.
Shoes in the City had its World Premiere at the Windsor International Film Festival in October 2025.
