Review: Mamiko’s Poop at OIAF
Synopsis
Mamiko witnesses her boyfriend cheating on her. That night, she is stress eating and gets stomach ache. Her poop in the toilet goes and kills her cheating boyfriend.
The synopsis caught my eye (good work, synopsis writer). I had to add this short to my list for the Ottawa International Animation Festival 2025.
Yasuteru Ohno’s film did not disappoint. It was a relatable story told in a sometimes silly, energetic way. The scenes were cleverly framed with the surreal look of a painting. The camera tilt and reveal in the last shot was a satisfying and a cinematic end. A well executed short film.

The Canadian Film Institute’s Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) was founded in 1976 and recognized as the largest and oldest animation festival in North America. OIAF regularly attracts upwards of 25,000 attendees and continues at various venues in downtown Ottawa until September 29th. The festival catalogue and schedule can be found on the festival website.
